Is it crazy to put real wood floors in a hallway with dogs?

Hello! I am looking for some brutally honest opinions here. We are redoing our main entrance hallway, which currently has ugly, cold tiles that I absolutely detest. I want to replace them with beautiful, warm timber, but we have two very active spaniels who bring in half the countryside when it rains. Am I asking for trouble by putting real wood in the main traffic zone of the house? I’ve been looking up options for wood flooring Edinburgh suppliers, but I don’t want to invest a fortune just to watch my dogs scratch it to pieces within the first month. Should I just compromise and get luxury vinyl instead, or is real timber doable?

It is definitely doable, you just need to choose the right character grade and texture! Don't get anything smooth or shiny because dog claws will show up instantly. Look for a deeply brushed, rustic grade oak that already has natural knots and grain patterns built into it. We have a busy house with pets and went with a gorgeous rustic engineered oak from http://www.hoffparquet.co.uk/ for our hallway. Honestly, when the dogs occasionally scratch it, you can’t even tell because the marks just blend right into the natural texture of the wood. It gives the house a lovely, lived-in country feel right from the front door, and it’s a million times nicer than walking onto cold vinyl or tiles.
